Denise Love

Denise Love’s career spans clinical, public health, and non-profit sectors. Her nursing career ranged from clinical, public health, and managed care administration. For the past three decades, Ms. Love has held leadership positions to build a health data reporting and transparency infrastructure within Utah and across the nation

In 1992, Denise was appointed as the Director of the Office of Health Data Analysis at the Utah Department of Health. She oversaw the implementation of the Utah Health Data Authority Act, establishing statewide reporting of hospital data for policy, research, and market uses. Her office deployed innovative technologies and methods to release comparative cost and quality data for public use.

Between 2000 and 2020, Denise served as the Executive Director of the National Association of Health Data Organizations (NAHDO). She provided advocacy and technical assistance to states establishing large-scale reporting systems and co-founded the All-Payer Claims Database (APCD) Council. In 2018, she was honored to receive the Eliot M. Stone Award of Excellence in Health Data Leadership.

Ms. Love served two terms (2015-2023) on the National Committee for Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS) which assists and advises the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Congress to on health information and data policy. She served as the Co-chair of the Subcommittee on Standards during her second term, supporting the implementation of the Administrative Simplification provisions of HIPAA and the interoperable, electronic exchange of HIPAA-covered transactions.  Since 2000, she has worked as a consultant for various state and national health data projects and has contributed to numerous publications on health data policy.

Denise obtained her BSN degree from Westminster-St. Mark’s School of Nursing and her  MBA degree from Westminster’s Gore School of Business. She has also volunteered as a Mountain Ski Host at both Brighton Ski Resort and Solitude Resort.
