The members of the Utah Citizens’ Counsel congratulate the Salt Lake City Council for using the process of appointing an independent group of citizens to design maps for the city’s redistricting process.
The “City Council Guiding Principles” with the features of balancing for population, compactness and contiguity, recognizing natural and human-made boundaries and avoiding reconfiguring for the purpose of political advantage are to be commended.
This process with guiding principles can be a model for all levels of government as future redistricting plans are carried out.
